Welcome to my blog! Happy New Year to everyone and I wish all of the spelling community and anyone else a great start to continued success. 🙂
My name is Mirle Shivashankar, a.k.a. Kavya’s Dad. I have come to be known as Kavya’s Dad from the time Kavya started making an impact in the spelling bee circuit. For some time now, I have been repeatedly asked by several people if I blog, specifically in regards to spelling. Finally, I thought that I would give it a try. This is my first blog ever, and I would appreciate any feedback you would like to give on how to improve it.
Since this is the beginning of the spelling bee season for 2011, I wanted to get this blog started early in the year, with the intention to recall some of the experiences that we have had as a family during this spelling odyssey of ours. Kavya participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee from 2006 through 2009. Vanya, my younger daughter, was a participant at the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
During the course of the bee season, I may mention other spellers – the ones to watch this season or the ones who have the potential to do well on the national stage. (I have over a dozen of them that I can list right away, but I am going to save that for later!) I welcome comments and tips regarding your own progress (or that of friend or relative) in the regional bees that we could share here with the rest of the spelling community.
Thanks for tuning in to my first blog. I will try to come up with a post on a regular basis through the spelling season and beyond, and I will look forward to connecting with a number of you past spellers, current spellers, future spellers, and/or spelling fans.
